Alicante airport to Gran Alacant

The bus is €2.50 and takes half an hour — cheaper and quicker than to Santa Pola, because Gran Alacant comes first on the line. The catch is the same: three a day, and none on Sundays.

In one paragraph

30 minutes by bus, €2.50, on Vectalia line 8 — the same bus that carries on to Santa Pola. Three departures a day Monday to Friday, one on Saturday, nothing on Sundays. And the thing nobody tells you before booking: Gran Alacant is up on the cape and the beach is at the bottom of it.

The bus, and why it is cheaper than to Santa Pola

Vectalia line 8 runs between Santa Pola, the airport and San Vicente, and it stops at Gran Alacant on the way. Because Gran Alacant sits earlier on the route, you pay less and travel less: €2.50 against the €3.85 to Santa Pola, and 30 minutes against 40.

Flying out on a Saturday? The only bus is the 07:35. On a Sunday or a public holiday there is no bus at all — budget for a taxi or a hire car.

Times and fares from Vectalia’s own public notices 13/26 and 10/26. Confirm on their site before you fly, especially after 6 September.

Does Gran Alacant have a beach? Not up there

This is the most common misunderstanding about the place, and it is worth knowing before you book rather than after. Gran Alacant has no coves of its own. It sits on the high ground of the cape, and what it has up there are the views.

The beach is El Carabassí, at the foot of the hill: fine sand and a protected dune system, and genuinely one of the best on this coast. Arenales del Sol runs on from it. Neither is a walk you do casually with a cool box and two children.

So the honest summary: Gran Alacant is good value, quiet, with views and space, and it is closer to the airport than Santa Pola. What it is not is a place you walk out of your apartment onto the sand. If that is the holiday you pictured, Santa Pola town puts you on the beach and in the old town at once.

What Santa Pola itself is like

Here, a car genuinely changes the trip

We tell people staying in Santa Pola town that they probably do not need to hire a car, and we mean it — the town is flat and you walk all of it. Gran Alacant is the opposite case.

Put the two facts together: the beach is at the bottom of the hill, and the bus runs three times a day. Without a car, a morning at the Carabassí means walking down and back up, or building the day around a timetable. With one it is five minutes.

And it opens the rest of it: Santa Pola and the Tabarca boat, Elche, the salt lagoons, Alicante for an evening. Before you book one, read what actually decides the price — the excess and the fuel policy, not the daily rate.

Where to stay in Gran Alacant

It is mostly apartments and holiday lets rather than hotels, which is part of why it works out cheaper than the coast below it. The one hotel most people search for by name is the AJ Gran Alacant.
